Synopsis

“Theatre” is the now-familiar tale of a married stage couple who are all smiles when the stage lights are on but harpies (and unfaithful ones at that) in the light of day. At least until they realize the errors of their ways.

Authors: Guy Bolton and Somerset Maugham

Historian’s Corner

In a Daily Pantagraph article, Mrs. Lyle Saylor created a chalk portrait of Mrs. Frieda Frey, who played the leading role in the upcoming production of the Guy Bolton and Sumerset Maugham play “Theatre.” The portrait was used as an important plot point in the show. The chalk portrait took Mrs. Saylor three hours to create. Mrs. Saylor was also a member of the stage settings and properties committee for the production.
