Synopsis

Since it first hatched in 1993, Stiles & Drewe’s musical HONK! has winged its way around the world in over 8000 productions and in many different languages and won multiple awards, including the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Musical. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on adventure of self discovery all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.

Music by George Stiles, Book and Lyrics by Anthony Drewe

Historian’s Corner

To prepare for the 81st season, the stage floor was replaced due to water damage of “Singing in the Rain” as well as other wear and tear. The stage floor had last been replaced in 1988 in time for the opening of “Cabaret.” The summer “Theatre For Young People” production was the new musical comedy “Honk!” a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Ugly Duckling.” The show did not have a reviewer, nor the attendance that was expected. Sadly, patrons missed a wonderful show with many talented performers.
