Synopsis
“Fashion” was a farce written in 1845. It was a hit when it first debuted, and it remains poignant today. The author, Anna Cora Ogden Mowatt intended the play to be exactly what it is: a comical look at the changing world that she was living in the mid-nineteenth century. At that time, everyone was struggling to find their niche in the world. Some sought this through honest work, some through dishonesty, and others through fashion. This play is considered by many to be the first American Social Comedy.

Historian’s Corner
The re-creation of an old broadside handbill style of a 1845 program displayed the men’s names first as was custom in the 1840’s, and then the presentation of the ladies followed. Also included in this production was special dancing by the Witmer School of Dance and music by “Doc” Bradshaw and the Majestic Orchestra.
