Synopsis

The musical “Camelot” opens hopeful enough with King Arthur nervously preparing to meet his new Queen, Guinevere. While initially Guinevere tries to escape the marriage, the young people soon fall in love, to the pleasure of Arthur’s wise tutor, Merlyn. In order to bring peace and stability to the kingdom, Arthur establishes the Knights of the Round Table. Included among these knights is the most famous of them all, Lancelot. Soon Lancelot and Queen Guinevere fall in love. Their affair is brought public with the help of Arthur’s evil illegitimate son, Mordred and his aunt, the sorceress, Morgan Le Fay. As a result, peace ends and war breaks out as Arthur’s troops prepare to fight Lancelot’s French army. Before the battle, Arthur sees a young boy, Tom of Warwick, and sends him home to remember and tell everyone of the one brief shining moment that was known as “Camelot.”

Historian’s Corner

Requests for tickets to see “Camelot” were so strong that the board extended the run from 8 to 10 performances. The reviewer urged the readers to get tickets quickly as many of the performances were already sold out, calling the performance a moving experience with an exceptionally talented group of actors. In a first for the Community Players, Musical Director, Chuck Morrill put together a 14 piece orchestra, the largest in Players history, up to that time.
