Location & Parking

Community Players Theatre is located at 201 Robinhood Lane, directly north of the Dollar General and Bloom's Coffee on Towanda Avenue. For those coming from out of town, please view the map or call for additional directions.

The entrances to the parking lot is located on Towanda Avenue. Look for the Community Players sign as you drive past Bloom's. Accessible parking is also available in this parking lot.

As a courtesy to our neighbors on Robinhood Lane,

  • DO NOT PARK IN THE LOT SOUTHEAST OF THE THEATRE OR THE MOSES MONTEFIORE TEMPLE LOT. Many of our performances coincide with services at the temple.
  • PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE ALLEY! We need to keep the alley clear for the emergency vehicles.
  • NO PARKING IS ALLOWED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF ROBINHOOD east of the greenspace section (in front of our main doors). Unattended vehicles will be ticketed and towed.

Street parking is permitted on the north side of Robinhood Lane and on Radliff, except where posted. Parking is still acceptable in the green space west of the building on Robinhood, but please beware if your vehicle has a low underside clearance. Also, the greenspace area and street immediately at the intersection of Robinhood and Radliff tend to temporarily flood during intense rainfall. We will not interrupt a performance to announce flooding, so be forewarned.

Accessibility

Accessible parking is available in the Bloomington Post Office parking lot. See Directions/Parking for more information.

There are a limited number of spaces for wheelchair accommodations in our theatre. First row (no stairs) or second row (one step) center section seating is available for patrons who wish to transfer from a wheelchair to a theatre seat. Please advise us of your accessible seating needs when ordering tickets.

Braille or large print programs can be provided with a two-week notice.

Hearing interpretation – sign language will be arranged upon request for Deaf or hard-of-hearing patrons with a minimum three-week notice. (Patrons who arrange for a friend or family member to provide formal sign language interpretation should request a complimentary ticket for the interpreter at the time of ordering.)

Hearing Assistance – Community Players offers a Hearing-Assistance System so that hard-of-hearing patrons can better hear and understand the dialogue and music of our productions. Using the Hearing-Assistance System, hard-of-hearing patrons better hear and understand the dialogue and music of our productions. Patrons are loaned a small receiver, about the size of a transistor radio or a mic pack, and an earpiece. A transmitter works through the theater’s soundboard to deliver the actors’ voices to the patron’s ear, bypassing background noises and other interference. If you wish to use the system, please see the House Manager before the performance.

The Hearing-Assistance System was purchased by means of a generous grant from the
Illinois Prairie Community Foundation to whom we are most grateful.

House Rules

Babysitter/emergency contact phone number: 309-663-2121. You are welcome to make a brief, local check-up call during intermission at the box office phone. Please ask for assistance.

Cameras/recorders/video recorders – are NOT allowed in the theatre. Please stow them away for the duration of the performance.

Cell phones/beepers/watches with audible alarms – Please turn OFF all cell phones, beepers/pagers (or switch to vibrate mode) and alarms on watches upon entering the house for performances. Cell phones in particular interfere with our sound system and headset communications, even if in the silent or vibrate mode

Food/drink – For most of our performances, food and drink are NOT permitted in the house. (Candies and lozenges are permitted). There are occasionally exceptions made that are show specific. Cold beverages are served in the lobby during most intermissions (donations accepted).

Smoking – Community Players is a smoke-free facility.

Fog machines/strobe lights – Please be aware that fog machines, strobe lights, flash pots, etc. may be used for certain productions throughout the season. If a member of your party is affected by these items, please ask in advance if these special effects will be used for a performance that you wish to attend. Announcements may also be posted at the entrance into the house or placed in the program.

Late seating – We attempt to start promptly on time. Please allow enough time to arrive at the theatre early. Occasionally pre-show activities are built in for your enjoyment. Seats designated on tickets are valid until 5 minutes before curtain. Late seating is at the discretion of the House Manager subject to available seating. You may be asked to wait for an appropriate interval before being seated and alternate seat locations may be offered to minimize disruption of performances already in progress. At the discretion of the Box Office, vacant seats at 5 minutes before curtain may be reassigned as upgrades or offered to standby list patrons unless you have contacted the box office stating that you will be arriving late.

Children – If you bring a child, make sure that theatre etiquette is a part of the experience. Kids love to learn new things. They are our future members and lovers of the theatre. We welcome them for all age-appropriate performances. Ask about booster cushions for smaller children. We do have family-friendly CHILD pricing for those age 10 and under. Due to Fire Marshal regulations a seat must be purchased for anyone entering the theatre regardless of their age (even infants must have a seat purchased).

Refreshments

Non-alcoholic beverages are available in the lobby during intermission (complimentary, donations accepted). Depending upon the theme of a particular show, there may be other items available, either complimentary or for purchase. An example is during our production of Barnum, cotton candy, peanuts, and popcorn were available. During Pump Boys & Dinettes, gourmet coffee was served.
